WS 5000 Wireless Network
Switch

The WS 5000 Wireless System is the latest innovation in
Symbol's wireless solution set, delivering across-the-board gains in
performance, enhanced security, system management, Quality of Service (QoS)
and Class of Service (CoS) features, while dramatically reducing
deployment, management, and technology upgrade costs associated with
enterprise wireless network ownership. WS 5000 is the mobile connectivity
industry's first system built on switched-wireless networking
architecture. It dramatically reduces deployment, management and
technology upgrade costs associated with enterprise wireless network
ownership. WS 5000 is a full enterprise system designed to deliver
advanced wireless networking services and application specific security
to IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi), 802.11a, 802.11g and legacy Symbol Spectrum24®
(802.11 and 802.11b) wireless networks and mobile systems.
The WS 5000 Wireless System is a single wireless
networking system that tightly integrates to the wired-enterprise network
core and delivers advanced wireless services and connectivity to the
network edge. This single system delivers centralized intelligence,
management and security at the networking switch layer. The Symbol
approach is significantly more economical when compared to
enterprise-class 802.11b and 802.11a (or dual mode) WLAN access points
and provides an intelligent adoption path for new wireless standards.

WS 5000 Access Ports have the same effective output
power, range, and performance of stand alone access points, yet there are
significant differences. With the WS 5000 Wireless System, the Axon
Switch controls the Access Ports and processes all traffic to and from
the WLAN. Therefore, the Access Ports function as wireless network
endpoints that bridge packets to the Wireless Switch and provide wireless
coverage. Also, unlike traditional access points, Access Ports are
zero-configuration devices at the point of installation and are
automatically adopted and configured centrally by the Axon Switch. As a
result, Access Ports are much less expensive than stand alone access
points. Adding more Access Ports to meet capacity demands is not only
easy but also cost effective. |
